High-rise buildings in the Laotian casino city can be seen from across the Mekong River in Chiang Saen, in Thailand’s Chiang Rai province. A Kings Romans Hotel speedboat transport travelers with border passes across the Mekong River those without visas are ferried across in smaller motorized boats like the one at right.

During a recent trip to Chiang Mai, I got the opportunity to visit the casino, crossing there via Thailand.
